Introduction
Sailing south from the town of Xingping, one arrives at Snail Hill which is situated on the west bank of the Li River, 64 kilometers from Guilin.
With a relative height of 31.8 meters, this hill is 360 meters above sea level. A huge crevice spirals up from the bottom to the top, making the hill resemble a huge snail. At the bottom of the hill lies a cave, which is 400 meters in width and depth. The cave consists of two sections: the east cave and the west cave.
Inside the cave there are three snail stones - one snow-white, one dark green and one pitch-black. A nunnery built in the Ming dynasty stands nearby. |
