In 2004 sales in the Chongqing's electronic and information industry reached 13.94 billion yuan, equivalent to about 15 times that of 2000. Of this, 10.48 billion went to manufacturing and 3.46 billion was created by software. A good foundation has been laid for industries in software, information services, communication products, digital equipment and instruments, digital home appliances, new-type elements and parts.

The "high-intensity focused ultrasound" (HIFU) produced by the Chongqing HIFU Company and the Online Intelligence Examination and Diagnosis System of Electronic Equipment developed by the Chongqing Haiji Company and Chongqing University, respectively, won the 2003 and 2004 National Awards for Technological Invention. The "world's first 0.13-micron TD-SCDMA3G CMOS chip for cell phones," developed by the Chongqing Chongyou Information Technology Co. Ltd., was successfully achieved. The SCDMA technology developed by Chongqing Xinwei Communications has been put into commercial operation in over sixty cities across the country. Many other information technological products have one by one emerged in Chongqing.
