Natural Scenic Spots-Mount Huang |
Mount Huang lies in Huangshan City of Anhui Province with circumference of 250 kilometers. Guangming Peak, the main peak, is 1,842 meters high above the sea level. The highest spot is 1,873 meters high at Lotus Peak. In the tourism area of 54 square kilometers, there are two lakes, three waterfalls, and about 60 water sources and 72 peaks showing their individual charms. Mount Huang has the sublimity of Mount Tai, the beauty of Mount Hua, the mist and cloud of Mount Heng, the waterfalls of Mount Lu and the great charm of Mount Emei. In 1990, Mount Huang was formally admitted by UNESCO as legacy of nature and civilization of the world and recorded in the "List of the World Legacy. " Throughout ages, the peculiar pines, strange stones, cloud sea, and hot spring are honored as "Four Peculiarities of Mount Huang. " Its main scenic spots include: Hot Spring, Ciguang Pavilion, Halfway Temple, Tiandu Peak, Yuping Building, Paiyun Pavilion, Shixin Peak and so on. Hot Spring is at the foot of Mount Huang. The water is very limpid and sweet and the tea and wine made from it are tasty. Bathing with it can help one get rid of tiredness and illness. It is also said that Emperor Xuanyuan's white hair turned to be black after he bathed in it. Thereafter it was called Spirited Spring. The Waterfall-Viewing Building between Hot Spring and Ciguang Pavilion provides a view of the upturned "Y" shape waterfalls. Below the blue sky and backing on mountains, the waterfall, with two branches from the steep precipice. Behind it is the Ciguang Pavilion, and above it, Halfway Temple, from in front of which strange rocks such as "Hawk Catching Chicken, " "Gold Cock Calling Sky" and so on can be seen. It is 1,050 meters from Halfway Temple to Tiandu Peak. Tiandu Peak is the most precipitous part of Mount Huang. It seems to scrape the sky and is very difficult to climb. Buddhist light can be seen on the Tiandu Peak, but it can be seen only by luck and can not be anticipated. Above the Tiandu Peak is Yuping Building, which is a platform backing up against the Yuping Peak. The mist and cloud of Qianhai spread in front of it, the beautiful Baie Ridge rises behind it, the towering Tiandu Peak on its left, the Lianhua and Lianxin Peaks amidst in the clouds on its right. Below the building are the three islands of Penglai. Near the building are two pine trees: Welcome Pine and Farewell Pine. The former one is 800 years old. Expecting Pine and Accompanying Pine on the Yuping Peak share the name d "Ten Famous Pines of Mount Huang" with other pine trees of Mount Huang namely Sleeping Dragon, Cattail Hassock, Black Dragon, Dragon's Paw, Bidragon, Linking Pine. Seen from distance, the highest peak, Lotus Peak, is like a flowering lotus. In Mount Huang, the sea-like clouds have been very famous ever sine, ancient times. Almost every day except in summer Mount Huang is surrounded by mist and vast cloud sea is often formed. So Mount Huang is also known as Huang Sea. From Lotus Peak (Lianhua Peak) upward to North Sea, the second highest peak of Mount Huang, Guangming Top (the words from Buddhism, mean "the Buddhist's head"), will be passed. Along the road from North Sea to South Sea, peaks are in picturesque disorder and singularly precipitous presenting a scene of boundless variety. Only on Shixin Peak (which means "begin to believe"), do people begin to believe Mount Huang' s matchless beauty. Mount Huang is like a soundless poem, a three-dimensional picture and a stilled movement. |
