| China is the earliest country to have produced porcelain ware. That's why the country's name in English is translated into "China", which also means porcelain. The original porcelain wine vessel of the Shang Dynasty has been found among the unearthed relics in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, workshops around Shangyu County, Zhejiang Province had been able to make highly refined blue porcelain. It could be made only by raising the temperature to as high as 1,260- 1,310"(2. The porcelain was well polished and covered with thick glaze. In the Tang and Song dynas-ties, porcelain production came to maturity. Various famous schools were formed, such as the Yue Porcelain, Xing Porcelain, Ding Porcelain and Ru Porcelain. In addition, great progress had been made in decorating skills and production techniques. In the Yuan; Ming and Qing dynasties, Chinese porcelain reached its climax, with the Jingdezhen Porcelain of Zhejiang Province as its best representative. Various porcelains of these three dynasties produced a wide and profound impact on the porcelain production of the later periods. |
