Guqin Music: Guang Ling San |
| Guang Ling is a place name in ancient China. "San" signifies the struc-ture of great ancient compositions. Guang Ling San is based on the story of Nie Zhen killing the prime minister of Han State in the Warring States Peri-od. It is an expression of depression and discontent. It is said that Ji Kang,'a celebrity of Wei-Jin Dynasty, was especially good at playing this music. When he was executed because he opposed Si-mas' for despotic domination, he calm-ly played the zither and faced death with great composure. The whole compo-sition can be divided into three sections, with forty-five parts. It is one of the most famous representatives in Chinese musical history. It embodies the rebel-lious spirit against the ruling power in the old ages, thus becoming one of the few pieces which are full of courage and pride. |
