"Xilin Gol "means"river on the plateau" in the Mongolian language. This grassland covers more than 200,000 square kilometers on the Mongolian Plateau.

One summer,we set off from Baotou,a city by the Yellow River,bound for Xilin Gol Prefecture 800 kilometers away. Tramping over the Yinshan Mountains,we saw the great Xilin Gol Plateau extending before me as far as the eye could see.0n the way, we passed Ulanqab in Siziwang Banner and the Sonid Grassland. When we were approaching Xilin Hot, the grass by the road grew greener, and we saw a number of gray cranes and hawks standing by ponds.

To me east and north of Xilin Hot,the Ujimqin Grassland stretches far away.The terrain is fiat,with numerous rivers and small lakes.While the Xilin Gol Grassland is considered the best grassland in China and even Asia,Ujimqin is the best of Xilin Gol. Heading from West Ujimqin to East ujimqin,we knew little about the direction,and it was only by following the telephone poles that we finally got to our destination at Uliastai.The vast grassland allured us so much that we stopped several times to measure the soft grass with our feet.As we gazed into the distance,we saw stretch after stretch of grass extending to the horizon£¬and clusters of white clusters  of white clouds saijing toward us.

The most beautiful place on the prairie is the bend on the Xilin River,the soul of the grassland. Originating in Chifeng,the 270-kilometer river winds like a kadag(or hada,a long piece of silk used as a greeting gift among the Mongo1ian and Tibetan peoples)near Xilin Hot,a stunning attraction to people from far and near.
