The Xing'an larch is the main tree in the Greater Xing'an Mountains Forest,part of the circum-arctic coniferous forest that extends within China north to south along the Greater Xing'an Mountains.It is also home to many arctic species. Such as the Snow hare. elk,cowberry and crowberry.The mountain range is divided into two sections by the Taoer River in Xing'an County. The northern section is about 770 kilometers long rising gently to the south; it is a coniferous forest zone of predominantly Xing'an larch.
The scenery varies as the seasons come and go. It is at its most beautiful in spring and summer. In spring,the emerging buds and purple azalea set each other off. In summer, the area is one vast stretch of dark green, enveloped in mist and clouds. In the past,the Greater Xing'an Mountains gave rise to many different ethnic peoples. Today, there are Oroqen and the Ewenki people still living deep in the woods. This primeval forest in the north Greater Xing'an Mountains, green and majestic is a treasured land along China's northern frontier. |
