Lhasa Gongar Airport: Lhasa airport (Gongar Airport) directly links with 5 cities: Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, Beijing, and Kathmandu. Chengdu & KTM are chosen by most of the tourists as their entrance port to Tibet by flight.
The air distance between Lhasa and Chengdu is 1,100 kilometers with a general transportation of more than 100 thousand persons and 1,600 tons of freights. After the rebuilt of Lhasa Gonggar airport, large scale passenger flight 767 can take off and land there.
All the airlines to Tibet are holding by China South West Airlines with the plane of Boen. It is said there was no big air accident happened since the opening in 1956.
Lhasa Gongar Airport is located in Gongar County in South East of Lhasa with 100km to Lhasa city. There is public bus for the passenger at the price of 35 Yuan (Rmb) Gongar Airport.
Bamba Airport: Bamba Airport, another airport in Tibet, is based in Qamdo in the eastern part of Tibet. amba Airport, which is invested in 250 million Yuan and is the airport at the highest sea level, was completed in Sep. 1994.
Airport Fees: There are two kinds of additional travel fees in China's airports, domestic and international. When one travels within China, an "airport construction fee" of 50 Yuan (about US$6.00) is levied at all domestic airports. When catching a departing flight out of China, a departure tax of 90 Yuan (about US$11.00) will be charged. Both of these fees are payable in cash (RMB) only at a special airport tax desk before check-in. There are two exemptions to the departure tax. Passengers holding diplomatic passports or transit passengers stopping at the transit point within 24 hours are exempt from the departure tax. |
