Actions: Benefitting the spleen, vital energy circulation and good for digestion. In addition, it relieves pain, promotes blood circulation and removes stagnation.
    
Recipe examples: (1) For prevention of sunstroke. Boil 50 g green beans in water until well done. Add a little white sugar and serve.
    
(2) For diarrhoea due to evil cold. Prepare 50 ml millet wine and 10 g brown sugar. Boil together until the brown sugar dissolves. Drink at a draught.
    
(3) For pharyngitis, laryngitis and coughing due to evil heat. Peel a piece of flesh from a whole orange. Put 15 g rock sugar into the interior of the orange. Replace the peel in the original site and fix it with a toothpick. Steam the orange in a bowl and consume.
    
  7. Honey
     
Made by honey bees, which are domesticated. Wild bee honey is also occasionally used.
    
Nature and flavour: Sweet and moderate.
    
Constituents:  The contents are very complicated. Apart from glucose, fructose and maUose, there is dextrin, protein, iron, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, manganese, sodium, copper, wax. pigments, natural  flavouring, malic acid, lactic acid, formic acid, oxidase, transformase and  vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, D, E and K.
     
Actions: Nourishing the vital energy, benefitting digestion, and regulating  the spleen-stomach function. Easing all the internal viscerae, detoxification.  Moistening the intestines, lowering blood pressure and preventing arterio sclerosis. High nutritional value.
     
Recipe examples: (1) For dry coughing, dry mouth, hot soles and palms  due to ),in deficiency. Dig out the nucleus of a large pear (may be substituted  by white turnip when pear not available). Fill in the cavity with 30 g bee  honey. Steam and consume, twice daily for several days.
     
(2) For indigestion. Prepare 30 g Chinese yam and 9 g inner membrane of chicken gizzard. Decoct the two ingredients for 20 minutes. Obtain the solution to which 15 g honey is added and serve, once daily.
     
(3) For constipation. Prepare 20 g black sesame and 30 g bee honey. Fry the sesame and then pound it as paste. Swallow the paste and honey with warmed boiled water twice daily.
