It was nearly dusk when we reached N03 camp on Mount Gongga so we went to the viewing platform at dawn the next dayIt was a solitary wooden pavilionconspicuous against the white snowFar off in the distancethe morning sun rose in the eastdirecting an unforgettable “blockbuster” over the main peak and over the tens of other peaks connected with it

 

A streak of blood—red light pierced the dark cloudsrevealing over 50 steep snow—capped summitsshinin9dazzling and thrusting into the clouds like golden swords
